"We got you." The Delaware investigator was laughing. It was a crisp Friday morning in November of 2010, and Edward DuCoin, a Wharton-educated entrepreneur,  had just picked up the phone. "Funny thing, it's Friday. So you're most likely going to spend the weekend in jail."

What followed wasn't a courtroom showdown. It was something quieter, and far more devastating: a decade-long collision between one man's integrity and a system built not to find the truth, but to close the case.

How does an innocent person end up pleading guilty?

For Edward, the answer began with a CPA who falsified records and handed them to state regulators. It ended with a public defender who admitted, on the record, that his office lacked the resources to mount a real defense. In between were prosecutors chasing white-collar convictions after the 2008 collapse, and mandatory minimums that turned a trial into a gamble with years of freedom.

Built from more than 20,000 emails and 15,000 documents, Indicted Loyalty, Convicted Logic is for anyone who has ever built something, trusted someone, or faced a system bigger than they expected.

Edward was arrested. But he was indicted for being loyal. He pleaded guilty. But the only thing convicted was logic. The book is nearly complete. The waiting list is now open.

Edward DuCoin

THE AUTHOR

Edward DuCoin started his first company in a spare bedroom with less than $500. He grew it into a three-time INC 500 honoree and, sixteen years later, took it public on NASDAQ. At its peak, his company employed more than a thousand people.

For decades, Edward trusted the people he worked with and the systems he worked within, including the advisors every business owner relies on: lawyers, CPAs, and the institutions meant to protect the innocent. Indicted Loyalty, Convicted Logic is the story of what happened when those people and that system failed. What Edward discovered will astound the reader as much as it shocked him: how easily the machinery of justice can grind down a man who did nothing wrong.

Edward is a Wharton graduate and a co-founder of the Orpical Group, where he advises companies on strategy and growth. He teaches at Montclair State University and writes actively on artificial intelligence and criminal justice, both reflecting on where we have been and where the future is taking all of us. This is the book he never expected to write, and a story for anyone who values determination, loyalty, and the truth of what happens when ordinary people are failed by those they trusted most.
